Earrings

Today I took you to Lakeside to get your ears pierced!

This has been a dream of mine for years.  I always knew that one day I would have a little baby girl and that I would get her ears pierced when she was 6 months old.  I was 6 YEARS old when my mom took me to get my ears pierced.  It was awful.  Not only did the girl pierce them unevenly, but she also said she was going to do it on the count of 3 but really did it on the count of 2, and so I screamed bloody murder for 45 minutes, walking all around Montgomery Ward.  I remember it like it was yesterday, even though it was over 24 years ago.  I didn't want you to have those same memories.

Noni went with us.  Your dad and Granny didn't want to be there to see you in pain, so the task was left to me.  It's only right, since it was my idea, more of a mommy time bonding moment anyway.  We went to Claire's.  I was nervous that the teeny bopper was going to be more interested in texting her bff than making sure the marker dots were even, but I was wrong.  Her name was Megan and she was fabulous.  She really knew what she was doing, and I could tell she was really experienced with piercing baby ears.  I was super nervous.  You were hilarious.  When I figure out how to add pictures to this, I will add some.

My favorite part was when you were sitting on my lap and she was preparing the gun with the cute little 14k white gold diamond earrings that I had picked out, you looked over at her and whined.  I hope I remember that sound forever, because it was pretty funny.  Megan said, did she just do that to me?  She felt awful, knowing you would be crying soon and it was all her fault.

I had to hold your arms against your body and hold your head to my chest so you didn't move.  It was awful.  Noni was taking pictures, and in one picture we both have the same pained expression on our faces.

As soon as it was all over, you were, of course, crying, until this nice man walked up and smiled at you and told you how beautiful your new earrings looked and you, being the sweet little girl you are, stopped crying and smiled right back at him.  That was the end of your pain, and for the rest of our time at the mall, you were completely happy.
